Video art, in contrast to traditional cinema that captures sequential scenes, can make us reflect on the poetic suspension from multiple perspectives in time and space in a single work. In this workshop, we will discuss the portrayal of time and space in the history of video art and experimental cinema. Students will then find different places on campus with interesting visual movements. Each student will use their camera or smartphone to capture at least one-minute of video without moving their device. The class will review the clips, and then select from them to compose a video collage in After Effects that illustrate a compressed narrative unfolding through time.
